......custom t-shirt quilts!

Got lots of t-shirts?  We can make a custom quilt out of them for you!

baby Luke's christening quilt made from his parents' shirtsIf you’re like a lot of people, you’ve got a stash of favorite shirts from school, concerts, sports, travel and/or marathons.  Why not turn those memories into something you can curl up with and use?

We use our own Quiltology design for our t-shirt quilts in order to create a modern and sophisticated look that’s unique to us.

What’s the difference?

Let’s just say that lots of quilters make simple grid pattern patchwork tops using a single large block (12” or 15”.)  We don’t. Why?  Because each shirt’s graphic sizes up differently.  Cutting one uniform size means you cut away some of the larger shirts' graphics, while the smaller images float in lots of blank space.

We begin by “fussy” cutting (that’s quilter’s speak) for cutting the shirts so we capture the full graphic (sort of like cropping a photo.) Then we piece them into vertical rows to create the modern look.

We'll work with you to select colors for the complimentary sashing and borders.  You also get to choose the quilt’s backing fabric and top stitching design.

Our t-shirt quilt prices include all materials* and labor:

  • 54” x 54” baby quilt (9 to 12 shirts)  = $300
  • 60” x 80” twin quilt (15 to 20 shirts) = $400
  • 72" x 90" full size (20 to 30 shirts) = $500

Michigan -- go blue and maize!* Price is includes cotton batting and backing fabric.  Wool bats and minkee backing are extra.

**The turnaround time for custom t-shirt quilts is 4 to 6 weeks.  Our busy seasons are graduation time and the holidays, so please contact us early if you have a project you need around those times.

**A 50% deposit is due when the project is ordered with the balance due when the quilt is finished.

Email us at info@quiltology.com to set up an appointment.  We’re happy to meet with you and see what you’ve got in mind.

Got a top made?

If you've pieced your t-shirts into a patchwork top and need to have it finished off, we can help with the quilting and binding services.

Long-arm quilting costs roughly 3 cents per square inch (including bat and thread charges) and the hand sewn binding charge is $4 per running foot.  So you can estimate a twin size t-shirt quilt would cost about $160 for the quilting and $96 for the binding.
